Parental bonding styles in schizophrenia, depressive and bipolar patients: a comparative study

Abstract Background Numerous bio-psychosocial factors play a role in the etiology of psychiatric disorders. In this regard, relationship between parents and their children is significantly involved developing offspring mental health. However, there no clear-cut answer as to which parental bonding style more strongly associated with diseases patients. This study aimed compare styles patients schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder Bushehr province, Iran 2018. Methods cross-sectional comparative study, 130 who referred four outpatients centers were selected using quota sampling. The assessed compared terms styles. Data collected valid reliable instrument (PBI). analyzed SPSS software (ver. 22), Chi-square Kruskal-Wallis tests at significant level 0.05. Results showed that optimal (low control, high care) (43.05%), major depression (47.7%), schizophrenia (38.5%) was most prevalent bonding; however, 62.30% above suffered from inefficient paternal 51.53% maternal Furthermore, patients’ different ( p = 0.007) while did not show any differences 0.848). Conclusions Most disorders affected by ineffective parenting results also confirmed despite several bio-psycho-social development disorders, crucial roles parents, especially mothers, should be ignored. It further suggested important fundamental for health promotion.
